Bucks County, PA photographer — Doylestown, New Hope and the river towns.

A covered bridge, a lake, a stretch of the Delaware and two concrete castles, all inside one county. Bucks is a good place to have your photos taken, and I'd love to be the one taking them.

I'll photograph your wedding, engagement, senior or family session anywhere in Bucks County — Doylestown, New Hope, Newtown, Yardley, Quakertown. Pottstown is my home base and I travel for the right shoot. Natural light, real laughs, and somebody running the group photos so your family isn't standing around wondering who's next.

Bucks County spots I'd love to shoot

  • Washington Crossing Historic Park, on the Delaware between New Hope and Yardley — river views, open fields, historic buildings and tree-lined paths in one park. A professional session needs a permit arranged through the park, and I take care of that.
  • Tyler State Park and the Schofield Ford Covered Bridge, Newtown — 1,711 acres with Neshaminy Creek running through, and an 1873 bridge that's the longest in Bucks County and its only double-span. Arsonists destroyed it in 1991 and it was rebuilt, reopening in 1997. You walk out to it from the trail near the parking area. State park, so I check in with the park office first.
  • Peace Valley Park and Lake Galena, Doylestown — open water, long shorelines and a lot of evening sky, with a nature center and the trail network behind you. The county's park ordinance treats photography as a commercial use, so this one needs a special use permit.
  • Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve, New Hope — native woodland and meadow plantings that look like a different place in every season, on trails built for walking. Professional photography needs permission in advance and an added fee, and the Preserve asks to be credited when the photos are published — which I'm glad to do.
  • Fonthill Castle and the Mercer Museum, Doylestown — two poured-concrete castles Henry Mercer built, full of arches, towers and stairs that look like nothing else around here. Staged photography on the grounds needs a photo permit, and their own list covers family, maternity, engagement and headshot sessions.

Or somewhere that's yours: the towpath you walk, the porch, the place he asked. That last one especially — I'm a sucker for the spot where it started.

Bucks County questions, answered

Will you travel to Bucks County?

Yes. Pottstown is my home base and Bucks is one of the Philadelphia-area counties I'll happily drive out to. I go further than that for the right session, so ask either way.

Do I need a permit for photos in Bucks County parks?

In Bucks, mostly yes — and that part is my job, not yours. Washington Crossing requires a permit for a professional session. Peace Valley falls under the county park ordinance, which treats photography as a commercial use needing a special use permit. Bowman's Hill needs permission in advance plus a fee, and asks for a credit when the photos are published. Fonthill and the Mercer Museum require a photo permit for staged sessions. Tyler is a state park, so that one goes through the park office. Short version: pick the place you love and let me sort the paperwork — just give us the lead time to do it.

When's the best light out there?

The hour before sunset. On the water at Peace Valley that hour is the whole reason to go, and the bridge at Tyler holds warm light late because the creek opens the trees up around it. Sunrise is the quiet option.
