Photographer in Lynchburg, Virginia — and a Liberty student myself.

Hi, I'm Katelyn. I go to Liberty University, and I photograph campus life as a student photographer on the Photography Team in Liberty University's Marketing Department. So when you meet me for a session in Lynchburg, you're not getting someone who looked the place up on a map. I know where the light lands, which spots are quiet on a Saturday morning, and how long it really takes to drive up the mountain before sunset.

My sessions are relaxed, and I bring the energy so you don't have to. One nervous person or a whole room of them, it works the same way: I'll direct you enough that you never feel lost, and then I'll get out of the way so the real moments happen. That goes for a cap-and-gown session, a headshot on your lunch break, or the night he proposes.

(My photo sessions are my own small business and aren't affiliated with or endorsed by Liberty University.)

What I photograph in Lynchburg

Big days, quiet ones, and the ones where a whole crowd has to land in the same frame looking the same direction. That last one is my specialty. Big group, tight schedule, everybody looking somewhere different — I will get them lined up, get the shot, and have you back to your day sooner than you expect, and it will be fun while it is happening.

Places I love to shoot

  • Riverfront Park — brick, water and downtown light, a short drive from campus.
  • Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks — Thunder Ridge, around milepost 74.7, is a short drive and a big view.
  • Peaks of Otter and Sharp Top — worth the drive when you want mountains in the frame.
  • Old City Cemetery — an accredited arboretum, and far prettier than it sounds. Roses, brick paths, old trees.
  • Liberty's campus — the Freedom Tower, the Academic Lawn, DeMoss Hall and the eagle fountain, and the LU Monogram up on Liberty Mountain.

Somewhere else in mind? Say the word. I'll scout it, work out when the light is right there, and build the session around it.

Around Lynchburg

Lynchburg is the middle of it, not the whole of it. I photograph out into the counties on every side, and I've written up what I love about each one:

Lynchburg questions, answered

Are you based in Lynchburg?

I split my time. I am a Liberty University student - which I will happily talk your ear off about - so I am in Lynchburg through the school year, and my home base is the Pottstown and greater Philadelphia area in Pennsylvania. That means I shoot in both places, and I travel for the right session.

What do you photograph in Lynchburg?

Liberty graduation photos, senior portraits, professional headshots, engagements and weddings. If it matters to you and it involves people you love, I want to photograph it.

Where do you like to shoot around Lynchburg?

Riverfront Park downtown, the Blue Ridge Parkway overlooks just outside town, Peaks of Otter and the Sharp Top trail, and the Old City Cemetery arboretum. On campus, the Freedom Tower, the Academic Lawn and the LU Monogram are favorites - and campus sessions get cleared with Liberty's Marketing Office ahead of time, which is a thing I handle.

How far in advance should I book?

Sooner is better, especially in spring. Liberty's commencement is May 13-15, 2027, and most grads book their May sessions between January and March. For fall dates, ask me over the summer.

How do I book a session with you?

Send me a note through my book me page with the kind of session you want and a rough date. I will reply with what is open and we will plan it from there.

Do you photograph big groups?

Yes, and it is one of the things I am best at. Family reunions, teams, clubs, church and ministry groups, graduation parties - forty people or four, the job is knowing who needs to be in which photo and getting them there while everybody is still enjoying themselves. There is more about that on my events page.

Dates are limited — I book out early, so don't wait until the week you want.
