Delaware County, PA photographer — Media, Swarthmore, and everywhere between.

Delaware County packs a lot into a small footprint: a 2,600-acre state park, two arboretums, and a county seat you can walk end to end. I'd love to shoot your session in it, and I've already got opinions about where.

Weddings, engagements, senior portraits, family sessions and branding photos — Media, Swarthmore, Newtown Square, Springfield, Ridley Park. Pottstown is my home base, and I come to you.

Delaware County spots I'd love to shoot

  • Ridley Creek State Park, Media — more than 2,600 acres of woodland and meadow with Ridley Creek running through the middle, plus a 1915 stone mansion built around a 1789 farmhouse, and what's left of its formal gardens, stone stairs and stable grounds. It's part of the national old-growth forest network. Worth knowing: the mansion houses the park office, and its event side is a separate private venue — so what we're shooting is the park, not the house. I check in with the park office ahead of time.
  • Tyler Arboretum, Media — mature specimen trees and open meadow inside a historic arboretum, and they specifically welcome senior class portraits. One honest heads-up so nothing surprises you at the gate: admission is required for everyone in the group, and that includes me. Commercial work carries a location fee arranged in advance with their events manager.
  • Rose Tree Park, just outside Media — 118 rolling acres with old trees, a woodland trail, a gazebo, an outdoor amphitheater, a retired steeplechase and the 1737 Rose Tree Tavern on the grounds. The county's own page names photography as one of the things the park is for. There are no private-party permits here at all: the tables, the gazebo and the pavilion are first come, first served, so we go early.
  • The Scott Arboretum at Swarthmore College — a campus that's also a garden. Stone buildings, an amphitheater and planted collections in one walk. Shoots here are by permit, applied for in advance through the college, and there's a fee.

Somewhere else you love? Tell me where. The spot you pick yourself is usually the one we end up using most.

Pennsylvania work you can judge me on

I don't have a session published under a Delaware County label yet, so I'm not going to claim one. Here's real Pennsylvania work instead:

Delaware County questions, answered

Do you come out to Delaware County?

Yes. Pottstown is my home base and I shoot across the Philadelphia-area counties, so I'll come to you in Media, Swarthmore or anywhere between. I travel further for the right session too.

Do I need a permit or tickets for photos at these spots?

It depends on the spot, and sorting it out is the first thing I do. Tyler Arboretum charges admission for everyone in the group, photographer included. The Scott Arboretum at Swarthmore is by permit, applied for in advance, and carries a fee. Rose Tree Park doesn't issue private-party permits at all — the gazebo and the pavilion are first come, first served, so we get there early. Ridley Creek is a state park, so I check in with the park office. Confirm current terms with each place directly before you set your date.

What time of day should we shoot?

The hour before sunset is the softest light of the day, and it's what I plan most sessions around. In a place like Ridley Creek the light comes through the trees sideways at that hour, which is half the reason to be there. Early morning if you'd rather have the meadow to yourselves.

How do we get started?

Send me a note through my book me page — the kind of session you want and a rough date — and I'll come back with what's open. Session length and the rest of the details are something we go over when we talk through your shoot.

A fair question I get asked: where am I the rest of the year? I'm a Liberty University student, so where I shoot in Virginia is the other half of the answer.
