A photographer for Lancaster County, PA — farmland, river bluffs and Penn Square.

I'd love to photograph your session in Lancaster County. My home base is Pottstown and I travel across southeastern PA for the right shoot, and Lancaster gives you farmland one minute and a hundred-foot river bluff the next, with a downtown built out of brick and iron.

Weddings, engagements, senior portraits, families, branding. My style is natural light and real laughs over stiff poses. I talk the whole time, which sounds like a lot until you realize it's why nobody in my photos looks like they're being held hostage.

Lancaster County spots I'd love to shoot

  • Chickies Rock County Park, between Columbia and Marietta — a quartzite outcrop standing about a hundred feet above the Susquehanna, with the river and the farmland in one frame. The Breezyview area on the southwest edge gives you the panorama, and its gazebo gets used for weddings. Lancaster County Parks doesn't publish a photography rule I could find, so I check with the park before we lock in a spot.
  • Susquehannock State Park, Drumore — 224 wooded acres up on a plateau, with overlooks roughly 380 feet above the river and a three-quarter-mile trail out to Hawk Point. Bald eagles and osprey work that ridge. It's a state park, so I check in with the park office ahead of time.
  • Lancaster County Central Park and the Garden of Five Senses — the county's biggest park at 544 acres, with the garden sitting on a hill above the Conestoga, woods on one side and lawn on the other. It holds color all the way through the year. Same as Chickies Rock: I check the park's current rules first.
  • Downtown Lancaster and Penn Square — Lancaster Central Market has stood in its 1889 market house on the square for generations, and it's the oldest continuously operated farmers market in the country. We'd work the streetscape around it: brick, iron and downtown light.

Will you come out to Lancaster County?

Gladly. Pottstown is my home base, I shoot all over southeastern PA, and I travel for the right session. Tell me where you want to be and I'll come to you.

Do I need a permit for photos at Chickies Rock or Central Park?

Honestly, I can't promise you either way — Lancaster County Parks runs a special-event application, but I couldn't find a published photography rule, and I'd rather tell you that than guess. What I do is check the park's current rules before we lock in a spot. Susquehannock is a state park, so that one goes through the park office ahead of time.

When's the light best out there?

The hour before sunset. Out on a bluff like Chickies Rock or Hawk Point that light comes across the water instead of straight down on you, which is exactly what you want. Sunrise if you'd rather have the overlook to yourselves.
